Luisa Diogo became the first female Prime Minister of Mozambique in 2004. Having studied economics, she previously worked as the Minister of Planning and Finance, the National Budget Director of Mozambique’s Finance Ministry, and a World Bank officer. Diogo also works passionately for the improvement of women’s rights throughout Mozambique and Africa as a whole. She is a member of a variety of organizations focused on these issues including the Network of Women Ministers and Parliamentarians (MUNIPA) and the Council of Women World Leaders.

Baleka Mbete is the Speaker of South Africa’s National Assembly and the National Chairperson for the African National Congress (ANC). She was elected secretary general of the ANC Women’s League in 1990. In 2008, Mbete became Deputy President of South Africa. She is an active politician and writer, having published Essential Things, an anthology of poetry.

Catherine Samba-Panza made history when in 2014 she became the first female president of Central African Republic. She took on the position of interim president of instability and violence resulting from the ongoing civil war in her country. Previously, she'd worked as the mayor of Bangui. She encouraged disarmament in spite of Central African Republic’s religious conflicts.
