cable

A cable is created by taking stitches from the left needle on a third needle, knitting as many stitches from the left needle as you like (often the same number as you have taken on your third needle), and then knitting the stitches you have taken off. This way you start a braiding pattern. You continue to knit as usual until you want to finish the braid. Then you simply repeat the steps above. Done!

The width of the cable depends on the amount of stitches you take on your third needle (usually a cable stitch needle). The length of your cable depends on the rows in between cable stitches. If you want the cable to go right, then you put the third needle behind your work. If you want it to go left, then you place the third needle in front of your work.
