Поло, Марко
(око 1254-1324) венецијански трговац и путник. Његове забелешке својих путовања у Кину биле су основа европске перцепције Далеког истока до 19. века. Његов отац и стриц су посетили Кину као трговци (1260- 69). Када су се вратили 1271, Марко, тада од 17 година, им се придружио. Стигли су Шангду, Кубила Кан летње престонице 1275. Марко је ушао у службу у Кану и провео је 17 година путујући по Кини пре повратка у Венецију 1295 преко југоисточне Азије. Марко је диктирао забелешке својих путовања писцу Рустичелу док је био у заробљеништву у Ђенови.
