Airbus A380
Currently the world's largest jetliner, the Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body jet airliner manufactured by Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS. The A380's upper deck extends the full length of the fuselage, with a width equivalent to a wide-body aircraft. This design allows the aircraft to have 49% more floor space compared to the next largest airliner, the Boeing 747-400.
Available with two engine options: the 74,000lb – 84,000lb thrust Rolls-Royce Trent 900, and the 76,500lb – 81,500lb thrust General Electric/Pratt & Whitney Engine Alliance GP7200, each producing 74,000lb – 84,000lb of thrust. As with all modern Airbus planes, the Airbus A380 is controlled by a fully fly-by-wire flight control system. The upper fuselage of the aircraft is constructed with a new composite material which is lighter than aluminium and more resistant to fatigue.
The A380's first flight took place from Toulouse, France on 27 April 2005 and its first commercial flight happened on 25 October 2007 with Singapore Airlines.
In January 2012, Airbus said that cracks were found on a number of "non-critical" brackets inside the wings of two aircraft during routine two-year inspections.
