CCD
Charge-coupled device. The image sensor that separates the spectrum of colour into red, green and blue for digital processing by the camera. In digital cameras both Area and Linear CCDs are used. A CCD captures only black-and-white images. The image is passed through red, green and blue philtres in order to capture color.
