DDG-1000 Zumwalt class destroyer

The DDG-1000 is a Zumwalt class stealth destroyer designed to operate underwater around enemy coastlines virtually undetected and launch rapid attacks against targets with its ultra powerful electromagnetic weapons. Its advanced stealth capability makes the ship appear like a small fishing boat on enemy radar. Resembling a futuristic ship from a si-fi movie, the DDG-1000 features a wave-piercing hull that leaves almost no wake, electric drive propulsion and advanced sonar and missiles. It's longer and heavier than existing destroyers, but only needs half the crew because of automated systems.

The prime missions of the DDG-1000 Zumwalt class destroyer are to provide naval gunfire support and next-generation air defence in near-shore areas where other large ships are vulnerable to enemy defense. Other applications of the ship includes acting as an anchor for action groups of stealthy combat ships and submarines, owing to its design for very low radar, infrared, and acoustic signatures. It's a multi-functional ship capable of performing undersea warfare, anti-ship, and long-range attack roles.

The ship is built by Bath Iron Works, a unit of General Dynamics Corporation.
